Thalapathy Vijay launches his Political Party for 2026 Assembly Polls

Thalapathy Vijay, one of the most popular actors in Tamil cinema, has announced his entry into politics with his new party Tamilaga Vetri Kazham.

He said he will not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections but will focus on the 2026 Assembly elections.

Tamil actor Vijay, who is also known as Thalapathy (leader) by his fans, has officially entered the political arena with his new party Tamilaga Vetri Kazham (Tamil Victory Party). The actor announced on February 2, ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

No contest in 2024, focus on 2026

According to Mint, Vijay said that his party will not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, nor will it support any other party. He said that his party’s goal is to contest the 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and that he will decide on the party’s symbol, flag, ideologies, and policies after getting approval from the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Politics is not a hobby for me; It is my deepest passion and I want to devote myself fully to it,” Vijay said in a statement. He added that his party has applied for registration with the ECI, keeping in mind the time required for the process.

Thalapathy Vijay Balancing films and politics

Vijay, who is one of the highest-paid and most successful actors in Tamil cinema, said that he will complete his film-related commitments without disturbing his party work. He said that he considers it as his debt of gratitude to the people of Tamil Nadu, who have given him everything including his name, fame, and money.

Thalapathy Vijay has starred in several blockbuster films such as ‘Theri’, ‘Master’, ‘Bigil’, ‘Beast’, ‘Puli’, ‘Thuppakki’, ‘Mersal’, and ‘Kaththi’. He was last seen in the action film ‘Leo’, which also featured Bollywood star, Sanjay Dutt.

Aiming for good politics and social welfare

Vijay said that his party will work for the welfare of the people, and will follow the Indian Constitution and the rights of the Tamil Nadu state. He said that his party would oppose wrongful administration, corrupt politics, discriminative and fascist politics, and any obstacles to the development and unity of the people.

He also praised his fan club Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, which has been doing a lot of public welfare activities for the past many years. He said that he has been waiting to give back to the Tamil people, who are like his parents, for a long time.

Vijay’s entry into politics has created a buzz among his fans and the media, as he joins the list of other famous actors who have ventured into politics in Tamil Nadu, such as Kamal Haasan, MG Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, and others.
